“We value space because of its power to organise, promote pleasant relationships among people of different ages, create a handsome environment, provide changes, promote choices and activity, and it’s potential for sparking all kinds of social, affective, and cognitive learning. All this contributes to a sense of wellbeing and security in children.”

PRESENTATION TITLE:

The Environment: from simplicity to complexity

ABSTRACT:

The learning environment speaks loudly of values, hopes and ideas for the way we show up to teaching and learning. Moving beyond the simplicity of toys on tables and designing a context that invites investigation, curiosity and challenge takes time, collaboration and a shared team commitment to high expectations. We will weave through the following environment lenses to explore what it might take to engage with complexity in your learning environment:

  1.     Organisational spaces
  2.     Relational spaces
  3.     Pedagogical spaces
  4.     Physical spaces
